Mark G. Hoyle Memorial Tournament
  • Tournament History

The Mark G Hoyle Memorial Tournament was originally called the Mike Reynolds Tournament. In 1986, Reggie Desnoyers proposed to then league president Roger Gagnon that the tournament be renamed in memory of Mark G Hoyle*.

Reggie, along with Bruce Sutherland started a tradition that continues 20 years later.

Though the 1993 team came oh so close, the first Swansea team to win the Mark G. Hoyle tournament was in 2003, under manager Joe Monteiro. Many of the players from that team were also on the 2005 12 Year Old District 6 Championship team. Please click here for a list of Hoyle Tournament winners over the years.

*Background Notes:
On Oct. 26, 1986, Mark G. Hoyle of Swansea, a hemophiliac, dies at 14 of AIDS. His struggle with the disease and the compassionate support he receives from the people of Swansea gains national headlines. Swansea welcomed Mark into school, at a time when school districts across the country were banning students with AIDS.
